Our passion for farming and grape growing comes from afar and is well rooted in our family. After producing grapes for decades, in 2014 we decided to start making our own wine in line with the production choices that other wine producers of Cortona have implemented in the last few years.
The idea of creating a winery arose in 2012 when the old family farm was partitioned. We decided then to cultivate mostly Syrah grapes in our vineyards and to leave a small part of the estate to Merlot vines.
We renovated the country house that have belonged to our family since the 1600s and brought it back to its original splendour by keeping all its characteristics unchanged. At the same time we started building up the winery.
The name “Canaio” derives from the nickname given to one of our ancestors who lived in the family estate and was called “Canaio” because of his great passion for hunting and thus for the high number of hounds he had.
In small-medium sized company like ours, the production philosophy cannot be other than focusing on a single goal: quality.
Every choice of our company is extremely important and implies absolute dedication and attention to every single detail.
No shortcuts are allowed, neither in the vineyard nor in the winery.
Every vintage is interpreted as it is, without any form of homogenization.
